A TRUE-LIFE STORY FROM MOUNTAIN OF FIRE AND MIRACLES MINISTRIES IN NIGERIA
There are some stories you hear and simply move on. Then there are stories that make you stop and ask yourself, “What would I have done if I were in his shoes?”
This is one of those stories.
It is a true-life testimony connected to Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) in Nigeria, about a man who, according to the testimony, went through a frightening and confusing experience that pushed him to the point of losing almost everything he had while desperately searching for a solution.
He had money. He had cars. He had houses. He had friends. He had people around him. From the outside, his life probably looked comfortable.
But suddenly, something happened that money could not explain away.
He became seriously troubled by a strange physical experience. He sought medical attention. He went from one hospital to another. Tests were carried out. Doctors examined him. He even travelled abroad because he believed perhaps better medical facilities would finally provide the answer he desperately needed.
But after all the examinations, he still had no satisfactory explanation for what he was experiencing.
And that was when his journey became even more desperate.
THE DAY EVERYTHING CHANGED
According to the testimony, the man was at home with his children when he suddenly experienced a sharp and disturbing pain that caused him to cry out for help.
His family became alarmed.
Imagine sitting at home with your children and suddenly feeling something so frightening in your body that you cannot understand what is happening. Naturally, the first response would be to seek medical help.
That was exactly what they did. He was taken to the hospital. Doctors attended to him. Examinations were conducted. Tests were carried out. Yet nothing seemed to explain the strange experience he was going through.
Perhaps you can imagine the frustration.
You are in pain, but the test results are not giving you the answer you are looking for.
So what do you do?
You try another hospital. That was what happened. He went to other hospitals, hoping that another doctor would discover what the previous doctors had missed. But the situation remained unresolved.
Eventually, the search took him outside Nigeria. He travelled abroad for medical attention.
More examinations. More consultations. More money. More expectations.... But after everything was done, he returned home without the answer he had travelled so far to find.
The problem had not disappeared.
WHEN MONEY STARTED DISAPPEARING
This was where the situation became particularly painful.
When a person is sick or desperately looking for a solution, there is a point where money stops looking like money.
You begin to think, “What is the use of keeping this money if I cannot solve this problem?”
That was reportedly the kind of desperation this man entered.
He started seeking solutions from different places.
After medical efforts failed to give him the answer he wanted, he began visiting herbalists. One of the places he eventually visited was reportedly that of a renowned herbalist in South-West Nigeria.
He was willing to spend.
And spend he did... But despite the money, effort and different attempts to find a solution, his situation continued.
This is one of the painful realities of life: desperation can make a person spend tomorrow's resources trying to solve today's problem.
The cars he had worked hard to acquire began to disappear.
The properties he had built or purchased over the years began to go.
One by one, valuable possessions were sold... Cars... Houses.. Other properties.
Things that had once represented success were now being exchanged for another attempt at finding relief.
Yet the problem remained.. Think about that.
He was losing the things he had spent years acquiring, but he was not gaining the answer he was looking for.
That must have been devastating.
THEN HIS FRIENDS STARTED DISAPPEARING TOO
But the loss was not only financial.
According to the testimony, people who had once surrounded him began to disappear.
Some friends stopped coming around...People who had enjoyed his company when life was good were no longer as available when his life became difficult.
Even some of the women who had been around him reportedly stopped coming.
That is one thing difficult seasons can reveal.
When everything is working, it is sometimes difficult to know who genuinely loves you and who simply loves what comes with you.
When you have money, cars, houses and influence, your phone can remain busy...But when the money starts disappearing and you are the one calling for help, the story can change.
Suddenly, some people become too busy... Some stop answering... Some disappear without explanation.
And you discover something you may never have learned during your season of comfort:
Not everyone around you is really with you.
This man was losing his properties. He was losing money. He was losing relationships. And still, he had not found the solution.
At this point, one can only imagine what was going through his mind.
He had gone to hospitals. He had travelled abroad. He had sought other forms of treatment. He had spent enormous amounts of money.
He had sold properties. People had walked away. Yet the problem remained. He was running out of options.
Then something happened that changed the direction of his story.
THE FRIEND WHO DID NOT WALK AWAY
Sometimes God can use one person to enter a situation at the exact moment when everybody else has left.
One day, a friend who lived outside the town came to visit him.
Instead of finding the strong, successful man he probably remembered, he met him in a very different condition.
He was on a sickbed. His life had been turned upside down. His possessions were disappearing. His strength was failing.
His search for an answer had become exhausting... But this friend was a born-again Christian.
He did not simply look at him, shake his head and leave. He prayed with him. Then he introduced him to his pastor.
That simple visit became a major turning point in the man's life. Sometimes, you don't need a crowd.
You need the right person.
One person who will still come when others have stopped coming. One person who will pray when others only complain. One person who will tell you the truth when others are afraid to speak.
One person who will say, “Let's seek God.”
That friend became part of this man's story.
THE MESSAGE HE WAS NOT EXPECTING
When he eventually met the pastor, he received counsel that was very different from what he had been pursuing.
He was encouraged to surrender his life to Jesus Christ.
Think about the irony. He had been searching everywhere for a solution to his problem.
Hospitals... Doctors... Foreign medical facilities... Herbalist... Different forms of treatment... Money had been spent...Properties had been sold.
But now he was being told to surrender his life to Jesus Christ.
Perhaps that was not the kind of answer he had expected. Many people approach God only when they have exhausted everything else.
God becomes the final phone call. The final option. The emergency button... But this testimony tells a different story.
The pastor and his friend prayed with him, and according to his testimony, he experienced healing... But the most remarkable part was not simply what happened to his body.
His life changed.
The man who had been desperately searching for a solution eventually became a follower of Christ.
And according to the testimony, he later became a pastor in his church, sharing what God had done in his life.
Just think about that transformation.
The man who once needed somebody to come and pray for him eventually became someone standing before others and preaching.
The man who once lay helplessly on a sickbed eventually became a messenger.
The man whose possessions were disappearing while he searched for an answer eventually found a new purpose...His pain became part of his testimony.
THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT GIVE UP
There is something powerful about this story that goes beyond the man's particular experience.
Sometimes we look at our present situation and assume we already know how our story will end.
You are struggling today, so you assume you will always struggle... Your marriage is going through trouble, so you conclude that everything is finished.
Your business is failing, so you believe your future is over... You have been praying about a matter for years, so you begin to wonder whether God has forgotten you.
You have lost money.. You have lost opportunities... You have lost relationships.
Maybe you have even lost people you thought would never leave... But please listen carefully:
A painful chapter is not the same thing as a finished book.
This man's situation looked terrible... He was losing almost everything... But his story did not end on that sickbed.
Something changed.
And sometimes, the chapter that looks like the worst chapter in your life today may eventually become the chapter you use to encourage somebody tomorrow.
JESUS WAS IN THE BOAT
The Bible gives us a powerful picture of this in Mark 4:37-39.
The disciples were in a boat when a great storm arose. The waves were beating against the boat, and they became so afraid that they woke Jesus and asked whether He cared that they were about to perish.
Jesus got up and rebuked the wind.. Then He spoke to the sea:
“Peace, be still.”
And the storm became calm... Notice something... The disciples were not imagining the storm.
The storm was real... The wind was real...The waves were real...Their fear was real... But Jesus was also real.
And His presence changed everything.
Maybe you are currently facing your own storm... Perhaps yours is not a health challenge... Maybe it is your marriage.. finances... business... family... Or your career.
Maybe it is something you have never told anybody because you are ashamed or afraid of being misunderstood.
You may even be smiling in public while fighting battles privately.
People see your clothes... your pictures...your social media posts.
They hear you say, “I'm fine.”
But they don't know what happens when you are alone.
They don't know the tears... the sleepless nights... They don't know how many times you have whispered, “God, when will this end?”
But God knows.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING FAILS
There is another lesson here that we must not miss. Seeking medical treatment is not wrong.
If you are sick, seek qualified medical care. Go to the hospital. Take appropriate tests. Follow proper medical advice. Faith in God should never be used as an excuse to reject responsible medical care.
But at the same time, don't live as though everything in life can be explained only by what you can see.
And don't treat God like the last option on your list.
Some people will try everything first... They will ask everybody... They will visit everywhere... They will spend everything...Then, when nothing works, they say, “Let me try God.”
But God is not a spare tyre.
He is not an emergency contact you remember only when every other contact has failed.
Seek Him while you are still standing...Seek Him while things are still going well... Seek Him before the crisis comes.
And if you are already in the crisis, don't think it is too late to turn to Him.
MAYBE YOU ARE THE ONE WHO NEEDS HELP TODAY
Perhaps this story is touching something inside you because you are going through your own difficult season.
Maybe you have already spent money trying to solve a problem... visited different places.
Maybe you have asked different people for help... Maybe you have become tired of hearing advice... Maybe you are saying, “I have tried everything.”
Please don't give up.
And if you have never surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, don't ignore the opportunity.
Come to Him sincerely.
You don't have to clean yourself up first....You don't have to pretend that you have everything together.
Come with your questions... Come with your pain... Come with your mistakes.....Come with your disappointment... Come with your fear.
Come just as you are.
If you have wandered away from God, you can return... If you have never known Him personally, you can begin today.
Say this prayer sincerely:
“Lord Jesus, I confess my sins to You. Please forgive me and cleanse me. I surrender my life completely to You. Accept me as Your son/daughter. Help me to live for You from this day forward. Take control of my life and lead me in Your ways. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.”
If you have sincerely prayed that prayer, don't stop there.
Read the Bible... Pray daily... Seek fellowship with mature Christians... Find a sound Bible-believing church where you can grow... Your new life with Christ should not end with a prayer.
It should become a journey.
YOUR STORY IS NOT OVER
One of the most powerful things about this testimony is where the man eventually ended up.
He started with a problem he could not understand.
He searched for answers... He spent money... He sold cars... He sold houses....He watched people disappear.
He reached a point where his life seemed to be collapsing around him.
But then a friend came.
A prayer was offered... A pastor counselled him... He encountered Jesus Christ... And according to his testimony, he received healing.
But beyond the healing, his life received a new direction.
Today, the man is reportedly a pastor, sharing the Gospel and telling others about what he believes God did for him.
Look at how different the ending is from what his situation once suggested.
That is why you should be careful about declaring your life finished because of what you are experiencing today.
You don't know what God can do with your tomorrow.
The people who have walked away from you may not know what God is preparing to do in your life.
The loss you are crying over today may not be the final chapter... The door that closed may not be the end.
The season that has humbled you may eventually teach you something you could never have learned in comfort.
DON'T GIVE UP, NO MATTER HOW DARK IT LOOKS
Maybe today you feel like you are at the end of yourself... Maybe you have reached the point where you don't even know what else to do.
My brother, my sister, no give up.
Don't let one difficult season convince you that your entire life is finished... Don't let disappointment make you turn your back on God.
Don't allow what you have lost to make you forget what you still have... And don't allow the storm to make you believe there is no God in the boat.
The disciples thought the storm would kill them.. But Jesus was there.
The man in this testimony thought his search for a solution was consuming everything he had...But his story did not end there.
And your story does not have to end where you are today...
Perhaps you are currently standing in the middle of your own storm.
You may not know how the next chapter will look... You may not know where the help will come from.
You may not know who God will use... You may not even understand why you are passing through what you are passing through.
But keep trusting God... Keep praying...Keep seeking Him... Keep doing what is right... Seek proper help where necessary.
And above everything else, don't walk away from Jesus because your answer has not arrived yet.
Sometimes the greatest testimony is not that you never went through the storm.
It is that you went through the storm and came out with a story to tell.
The man sold his cars.. He sold his houses.. He spent heavily searching for a cure.. People walked away.
His life appeared to be falling apart... But that was not the end... Something changed.
And today, according to his testimony, the same man who once needed someone to pray for him is now a pastor telling others about Jesus.
So if you are in a difficult place right now, remember this:
Your present condition is not necessarily your final destination.
The storm may be loud, but Jesus is still Lord... The night may be long, but morning can still come... You may have lost much, but you have not necessarily lost your future.
You may have cried many tears, but your tears do not have to write the ending.
Hold on.. Keep your faith.. Seek God.. And whatever you do, don't give up on your story.
Because sometimes, just when you think the story is over, God begins writing the part you never expected.
Your story can still change.
