Escaping Sexual Bondage
There is a saying in our villages: “What you don’t know can kill you.”.....And this is true even in spiritual matters.
Ignorance is not innocence....it is a weapon the devil uses to keep destinies in chains.
Many people are silently dying in secret battles with masturbation.
Some are too ashamed to speak up. Others pretend it is not serious. But silence does not kill the spirit of lust.
....Ignoring it does not make it go away. In fact, what you ignore will one day control you.
Let me share some true encounters that show us the reality of this battle.
THE YOUNG MAN WHO HID HIS SECRET
In my town, there was a young man everyone respected in church. He led prayers, quoted scriptures, and even preached fire. But in secret, he was addicted to pornography and masturbation. He told nobody.
One day, he confessed to a brother: “When I am in the act, I feel like I am not alone. It’s as if a presence enters the room. Afterward, I feel dirty, empty, and far from God.”
He didn’t know then that during masturbation, he was actually opening the door to demonic intimacy.
He was having spiritual sex with unseen beings....... Ignorance told him it was “just his body,” but revelation showed him it was a covenant with demons.
THE GIRL WHO LOST HER VOICE
A young lady once shared her pain with me.
.... She started with masturbation when she was 13 after friends introduced her to movies.
She thought it was harmless fun. But years later, whenever she tried to pray, she heard a mocking voice: “You belong to us. Who are you to pray to God?”
She told me through tears, “Evang Paulinus Paul, I felt like I was chained. Every time I tried to worship, it was like my voice was swallowed. I didn’t know masturbation was spiritual. I thought it was only physical pleasure. I was wrong.”
Her ignorance cost her her spiritual authority. But once she broke free, she discovered what Jesus meant when He said: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32).
THE MAN WHO NEARLY BECAME A RAPIST
There was another young man from Zimbabwe who confessed openly.
He said, “At first, I only watched small videos with friends. Then I started downloading them. Then it became daily. When I didn’t have videos, the urge was so strong that I looked at my own sister with lust.”
He was shocked at himself. Masturbation, fed by pornography, had pushed him toward a spirit of rape. Ignorance had told him: “This is private, nobody knows.” But in reality, demons were grooming him for destruction.
This is why we cannot afford to stay silent.
THE DEVILS TRAP
One thing we must all understand is this.... the devil is not careless.
- He is strategic.
- He has studied humanity for thousands of years.
- He knows how to bait men and women into sin.
- What looks small today can become a chain tomorrow.
The devil doesn’t usually begin with something big.
.... He begins with a suggestion.
- A picture.
- A thought.
- Something that looks harmless. But step by step, he drags the person into deeper bondage.
This is how the cycle works...
HE INTRODUCES THE BAIT:
It could be an image, a short video, a casual conversation, or even just a passing thought.
Suddenly, a picture flashes across your mind. Or a friend shares a video “just for fun.” It looks innocent, but it is a seed. That little seed is where the battle begins.
Think of Eve in the Garden of Eden.
.... The devil didn’t begin by forcing her to eat the fruit. He first introduced the bait by asking, “Has God said…?”
He placed an idea before her, something to make her curious. That is how temptation starts—small, simple, and almost harmless.
HE WHISPERS LIES
After the bait, the enemy begins to speak softly. He tells you, “It’s just once. It will not hurt.” He convinces you that nobody will know, and it’s not a big deal. He makes sin look less dangerous.
These lies are deadly. Remember, the devil is called the father of lies (John 8:44). Once you believe his whisper, you have already started walking toward the trap.
HE HOOKS YOUR DESIRE:
Once you accept the lie, desire begins to grow. The devil will then suggest, “Save it, watch it later. Nobody will disturb you when you are alone.”
Slowly, your curiosity turns to desire. Desire turns to action. And that action becomes a chain.
James 1:14–15 says: “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
Notice the process...
TEMPTATION —> LUST —> SIN—> DEATH .
This is the exact hook of the enemy.
HE ISOLATES YOU:
Isolation is one of the devil’s strongest weapons. He will convince you to hide it. He whispers, “Don’t tell anyone. It’s embarrassing. People will laugh at you. You are the only one struggling with this.”
By making you believe that lie, he cuts you off from help.
A sheep that is alone is an easy prey for the wolf. The devil knows that if you expose the secret, light will shine, and his grip will break. So he pressures you to keep quiet.
HE ENSLAVE YOU:
Finally, what started as “PLEASURE ” becomes a PRISON .
You no longer control it; it controls you. You find yourself repeating it, even when you don’t want to. Guilt sets in.
.... Shame grows stronger. You pray and promise God, “I won’t do it again,” yet you fall again.
This is no longer just a HABIT... it is bondage. It is slavery. It is spiritual chains.
This cycle is the same trap many people are caught in today. Some have been in it for years. Ignorance tells them, “It’s not serious.” But in reality, every cycle only strengthens the chain.
EXPANDING THE BATTLE: ADDITIONAL VITAL TRUTHS TO RECOGNIZE
To fully overcome this vice, we must look deeper into the hidden damages and spiritual mechanics of persistent lust. Here are vital points you must understand:
THE DANGER OF DESTINY DILUTION
Masturbation does not just affect your prayer life; it drains your mental and spiritual energy. God has placed glorious seeds of destiny, creativity, and leadership inside every man and woman. However, the spirit of lust acts as a vacuum, sucking out your focus, willpower, and divine stamina. Many people wonder why they struggle to succeed in academics, business, or ministry. Often, the hidden energy leak is an unaddressed addiction that wastes precious spiritual and mental vigor on fleeting physical sensations.
THE ATTACK ON FUTURE RELATIONSHIPS AND MARRIAGE
Lust teaches the brain to view human beings as objects rather than souls created in the image of God. When someone is deeply bound to pornography and masturbation, their capacity for genuine, selfless love in future relationships or marriages is severely damaged. They begin to crave unnatural fantasies instead of appreciating the beauty of godly intimacy. This frequently leads to marital dissatisfaction, emotional detachment, and broken homes down the road. Breaking the chain now is a rescue mission for your future spouse and children.
THE DANGER OF NIGHTLY OPPRESSION

THE WAY OUT
Now listen carefully....

Here are steps to attract God’s attention and escape this bondage:
EXPOSE THE SECRET
Darkness only has power where there is silence. The devil thrives in secrecy. But the moment you open up to a trusted servant of God, a counselor, or a spiritual mentor, the chain begins to weaken.
James 5:16 says, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” Healing comes when we expose the wound.
CUT THE CHANNELS
You cannot pray for deliverance and still keep the same videos, contacts, or apps that feed the habit.
That is like trying to put out fire while pouring petrol.
- Delete porn.
- Block ungodly sites.
- Stop storing unholy things on your phone.
- Don’t feed what you want to kill.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:29, “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.” He wasn’t telling you to literally remove your eye, but to cut off anything that drags you back to sin.
STAY ACCOUNTABLE
Temptation grows stronger in secret. Accountability breaks the secret.
Surround yourself with people who can check on you, pray with you, and encourage you. That way, when you are weak, someone can strengthen you.
... Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 says, “Two are better than one… for if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.”
FILL THE VACUUM
Deliverance is not ENOUGH,.. you must fill your life with God.
Jesus warned in Matthew 12:43–45 that when a demon leaves and finds the house empty, it comes back with seven stronger spirits.
This means if you stop masturbation but don’t fill yourself with the Word, prayer, fasting, and worship, the devil will return stronger..
Don’t just stop doing the wrong thing.
- Start doing the right things.
- Replace lust with love for God.
- Replace porn with the Word.
- Replace wasted time with prayer.
CRY FOR DELIVERANCE
Finally, understand this, masturbation is not only a HABIT... it is a spirit. And only Jesus can break spiritual chains.
- Call on Him..
- Cry to Him with desperation.
- Tell Him, “Lord, I am tired of this bondage. Set me free.”
The blood of Jesus has power to break every yoke.
Isaiah 10:27 says, “The yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
The yoke of masturbation, pornography, lust, and guilt can be broken when you run to Jesus in sincerity.
CONCLUSION
Ignorance is deadly. Masturbation is not “just pleasure.”
It is a spiritual trap that ties people to demons and prepares them for deeper sin.
What begins as a “harmless” secret can end in destruction if it is not broken.
But here is the good news:.... Jesus came to set the captives free..
- You do not have to remain in that prison.
- You do not have to live under guilt.
- You do not have to be bound by chains of shame.
....Do not stay silent.
... Do not hide.
... Speak out.
... Seek help.
... Cry to God.
And rise again...
Because when you are free, your testimony will also set others free..
