True Life Story – The Last Episode
The Continuation From Second Episode
Many people believe that a successful marriage depends on physical attraction, wealth, social status, or even outward spirituality. However, the greatest mistake anyone can make is choosing a life partner based solely on what the eyes can see. This true-life story reminds us that God's plans often differ from our expectations, and His choice is always the best.
If you have ever wondered whether waiting on God truly pays, this story will encourage you to trust His wisdom above your own understanding.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." — Proverbs 3:5–6
OUR FIRST NIGHT AS HUSBAND AND WIFE
No one understood why.
For goodness' sake, no guy had ever seen my nakedness! How then would I cope with Dave and me alone in a room?
Some friends had assured me that everything would come naturally, but I still wasn't convinced.
When we finally arrived home after the wedding, we were both exhausted. Sleep was calling, but I didn't want to sleep. The truth was simple—I was shy.
So, we decided to pray.
Yes, we both knelt down and prayed fervently. While pretending to pray with my eyes tightly shut, I secretly peeped through one eye to see the innocent man beside me praying sincerely. Before long, I realized this had become more of a punishment than a spiritual exercise, so I quickly brought the prayer session to an end.
We both went to shower...
Separately.
When Dave returned from the bathroom, I was already lying on the bed, fully dressed, even though I knew the beautifully scented lavender scattered around the room created a romantic atmosphere.
Surprisingly, he kept avoiding eye contact with me.
I thought to myself, "Aww... my loving, shy husband."
"Dave, goodnight," I finally said.
"Oh... sure," he replied. "You're tired, right?"
With my heart beating faster than ever, I asked, "Aren't you tired?"
"Of course," he smiled. "Everything can wait until morning."
Chai! What exactly was he referring to?
"Okay... goodnight."
"Alright, dearie. I love you dearly."
"Thanks."
I assumed that would be the end of the conversation.
He climbed onto the bed, covered both of us with the soft duvet, and silence filled the room.
I lay facing one side of the room while he deliberately faced the opposite direction.
- "What's happening?" I wondered.
- "Doesn't he love me? Even if I was pretending to be difficult, couldn't he at least say something?"
Then I remembered what people usually call woman power.
Slowly, I began shifting backwards on the bed. After about five careful movements, we bumped into each other.
I screamed and jumped up immediately.
Dave also sat up—but instead of panicking, he burst into laughter.
I stared at him in confusion.
"You scared me jooo!" I complained.
"I'm sorry, dear," he replied, still smiling. "But was that really scary? You're my wife now. Touch is allowed."
I looked at him like a frightened child searching for comfort, silently praying that he wouldn't touch me.
Instead, he moved closer, gently held both of my hands, and whispered into my ears,
"I already told you—it won't be tonight. Whenever you feel confident, just tell me. You're not the only virgin here, you know. I didn't marry a sex-driven beast."
The moment I looked into his eyes, I saw genuine love. Every fear disappeared.
That night, I slept peacefully in his warm embrace until dawn.
That was when I truly understood the meaning of the saying, "Weather for two."
GOD'S PLAN WAS FAR BETTER
As I narrated the incident to everyone present, the entire hall erupted with laughter.
Dave laughed even louder.
Today, I laugh too.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you...
Dave now walks!
After undergoing major muscular ligament reconstruction and several medical procedures, my husband regained the ability to walk.
God truly turned our story around.
Today, we are blessed with two beautiful children—a boy and a girl, Eyinjuoluwa and Olaoluwa.
And yes, I still hope to have more children, even if I may never reach my dream of having eight.
By God's grace, we now own large event centres in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt.
We also operate three ultra-modern studios for photography, acting, and media productions.
The Lord has blessed the work of our hands beyond our imagination.
In fact, we are about to launch our transport company. We have already purchased fifty buses, ten Marcopolo buses, and twenty minibuses to begin operations... God has truly been faithful.
WHEN I MET MATTHEW AGAIN
One day, while supervising the arrangement of goods inside my newly opened supermarket, I heard a heated argument between a couple.
The wife said,
"Why can't you carry the baby? I'm pushing the shopping cart, carrying the baby, and holding my handbag. That's not fair."
The husband replied,
"Carry your baby yourself. Isn't that your responsibility? Why didn't you leave your handbag in the car? Please, leave the matter."
She responded,
"At least we're outside pretending you're the gentleman you really aren't."
Immediately, the man turned angrily toward her.
"Woman... be careful!"
I quickly rushed over to calm the situation.
Then I saw him.
It was Matthew.
My Matthew.
The man I once believed was God's perfect choice for me.
The angel I had imagined had become someone completely different at home.
We later sat together over a meal, and I shared a few words of encouragement with both of them.
As I walked away, gratitude filled my heart.
I quietly thanked God.
Thank God I didn't miss His will for my life.
THE BEAUTY OF GOD'S CHOICE
Dave loves me deeply.
- Even today, whenever I travel for the smallest meeting, he checks on me regularly.
- He still sends flowers to my office.
- He openly tells me whenever any lady approaches him.
- He remains faithful.
- He notices every little change in my body.
- He is sensitive to my pain.
- He plans thoughtful surprises for our family.
- He prays with me.
- He plays with our children.
Every single day, he reminds me that God's choice is always worth waiting for.
MY ADVICE TO YOU
If you are married and you are not enjoying your marriage, do not be quick to conclude that all hope is lost. Examine your heart, seek God's wisdom, and intentionally learn to love your spouse. Although an alternative can never replace the original, God's grace is able to restore broken relationships when both hearts are willing.
If you are still unmarried, remember that God still speaks.
Do not choose a spouse merely because of physical appearance, wealth, popularity, or outward spirituality.
Develop a genuine relationship with God and allow Him to guide your decision.
The person you least expect may be the very one God has prepared for you.
You do not have to depend entirely on another person to hear God for your future. As you walk closely with Him, He is able to lead you.
"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." — Proverbs 14:12
"Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it.'" — Isaiah 30:21
The End
CONCLUSION
One wrong decision can change the course of a lifetime, but one decision made in God's will can become the beginning of a beautiful testimony.
This story reminds us that outward appearances can be deceptive. God's wisdom sees what our eyes cannot. When we trust Him completely, we position ourselves to enjoy His best rather than settling for what merely looks good.
Whether you are single or married, never underestimate the value of seeking God's direction in every season of life.
A MOMENT OF REFLECTION
Before making life-changing decisions, especially about marriage, ask yourself these questions:
- Am I following God's leading or simply my emotions?
- Am I judging by appearance rather than character?
- Have I truly committed this decision to God in prayer?
Sometimes, what looks like a disappointment today may actually be God's greatest protection for tomorrow.
